What We Do:
Do you need Opossum Removal Service?
Opossums have grey to black fur, a pointed pink nose and a hairless rat like tail. They range in size from 3-12lbs and about 30 inches long. When a opossum feels threatened or unable to flee it may involuntarily fall into a state of shock giving the impression that it is dead, which is where the term “playing possum” comes from. Opossum are North America’s only marsupial (pouch) mammal. After mating they are pregnant only 13 days. When they are born the joeys (babies) are the size of a kidney bean. The joeys then crawl into the pouch and attaches to a nipple for the next 2-3 months. Once the young leave the pouch the mother carries them around on her back for about 2 weeks. When they become too heavy to hold on they are ready to forage for themselves.
Opossums are usually nocturnal animals. Their diets consist of insects and grubs however they will eat garbage when it is easily accessible. They are known to live under sheds, decks, concrete slabs and in garages or sheds.
